Nick talks with Lou Shaver, a working draw inspector, about what the job is, how new inspectors find their first jobs through inspection marketplaces, and the simple tools the work runs on. The episode's companion article on Side Hustle Nation lists RAZE among the marketplaces where inspectors find draw inspection work.

A draw inspection job on RAZE

  1. Apply and get approved

Identity verification, a competency assessment, watchlist and AML screening and proof of insurance come first. RAZE then approves the account before any assignment is visible.

  2. Accept an assignment

Assignments reach the RAZE Mobile App with the lender's requirements attached, and every job shows its fee before you accept it.

  3. Inspect the site

Answer the lender's questions and take the required photos in the app. GPS, date and time stamps travel with every photo, and offline mode keeps you capturing with no signal.

  4. Submit from the field

The app turns your answers and photos into the report, and you submit it directly from the field.

  5. Get paid on Friday

Every inspection submitted Sunday through Saturday is direct deposited the following Friday morning, with nothing to invoice.

What a job pays

A standard single-family draw inspection on RAZE pays $60 to $85. Duplexes to quadplexes pay more, and rare jobs pay up to $250. The RAZE Draw Inspection Support team sets each fee from what the job asks of the inspector (drive time, the number of jobs in the trip, access to the site, the draw sheet and the type of job), not from the market, and the RAZE Mobile App sends a price alert whenever a fee changes. Paid every Friday walks through the full pay cycle.

Before your first assignment

RAZE asks each inspection company or contractor for at least three years of residential draw inspection experience. An inspector with less experience needs a referral or recommendation. Every applicant also carries the insurance minimums and passes the background check listed on the vendor application, and every account signs in to the RAZE Mobile App with a secure password, on an encrypted phone, from one device at a time.

The standards apply for as long as you stay on the network. For the general questions about licenses, equipment and finding work, see the draw inspector jobs FAQs.
