What equipment does a draw inspector need?

Short answer

A smartphone or tablet running the RAZE Mobile App on iOS or Android, a charger, reliable transportation, internet access and PPE: a hard hat, a safety vest and protective footwear. Add a tape measure where the draw sheet calls for measurements. The app captures the photos with time and location stamps, so no separate camera is needed for RAZE work.

The short list.

  • A smartphone or tablet. The RAZE Mobile App runs on iOS and Android, installed from the App Store or Google Play. Every part of the inspection happens in it: the job list, the borrower contact, the photos, the draw sheet, the questionnaire and the report. Each profile can be signed in from one device ID at a time, so pick the device you will carry.
  • A charger or spare battery. Photo capture, GPS and a long draw sheet drain a phone over a day of stops.
  • Reliable transportation. Marketplace jobs list their distance in miles, and the app opens a job's address in Waze, Google Maps or Apple Maps (Mobile App 1.5.1).
  • Internet access. A data plan for the phone. The app keeps capturing with no signal and syncs when the device reconnects.
  • Personal protective equipment. A hard hat, a safety vest and protective footwear for an active site.
  • A measuring tool. A tape measure or laser measure where the draw sheet calls for measurements, such as a slab or a length of fence.

Why it matters for inspectors.

The camera question comes up most. In the RAZE Mobile App, photos are taken in the app's own camera, and each one carries a time and location stamp and a comment field, then syncs to the inspection; the photo guide shows the steps. A separate camera adds a transfer step and strips the stamps the lender relies on, so for RAZE work the phone is the camera. What the lender expects in those photos is its own question: draw inspection photo requirements.

Site access is the other half of equipment. Coordination with the borrower is mandatory on every RAZE job, and the app sends the text from the inspection card (site access guide), so a working phone number and a plan for a gated or occupied site matter more than any tool in the truck.

What is not equipment but still required.

Insurance is on file before any assignment is visible: the Vendor Application lists the minimums RAZE requires of inspectors for general liability, professional liability, automobile and workers' compensation. Every inspector also uses a secure password and smartphone encryption to access the app. Neither sits in a toolbox, but both decide whether a job appears on your screen.

How RAZE handles it.

RAZE supplies the software side of the kit. The Mobile App captures the photos with time and location stamps, walks through the lender's draw sheet and questionnaire, builds the PDF report and submits it from the site, so an approved inspector needs a phone, a vehicle, PPE and a measuring tool rather than a bag of specialist gear. The Mobile App guides show each screen; the path onto the network starts in how to become a draw inspector.
